Hi! I’m Alisa Mallinger,

Doesn’t it always happen this way- you go to school for one thing only to realize later in life what your true passion and calling is? That is exactly what happened with me. I originally studied art history, but after a brief career in medical sales, I realized what I really loved was fitness and nutrition!

I went back to school and earned a Masters Degree in Cardiac Rehab and Exercise Physiology. From there I started teaching rock climbing at a local gym and training as a personal trainer. Helping people learn about their bodies, teaching and inspiring them to reach their goals- I was hooked! So I’ve spent the past 15 years doing exactly that, through personal training, boot camps, and developing my own fitness programs.

My workouts are for everyone, but they are specifically geared towards busy women 35 and older. With an emphasis on strength training and compound exercises, my goal is to provide safe, efficient and effective workouts wherever you can get them done. Everyone can find 30 minutes in a day to do something for themselves!

WHY IS STRENGTH TRAINING IMPORTANT?

Bones are alive!  There are cells that lay down bone and some that chew up old bone.  As we age, the cells that lay down bone are not as active and with time the bone chewers start to win = Osteoporosis (weak bones).  The superhero here is strength training which challenges your muscles to work against the bones (like opposing forces) and tells the bone builders to wake up and strengthen your bone (and your muscles).  Strength training 2X a week has been shown to help build bone mass or at least halt the rapid loss.  Plyometric exercise involving jumping is also seen as a very effective way to halt the bone loss process.
